10 Things I learned from Charles Poliquin

Author: Hayden Brown

charles poliquinOver the years I have been fortunate enough to attend a multitude of seminars and courses with some truly amazing health professionals and coaches. In a mission to optimise my own health in addition to my clients, I had started on a quest to find the tools to do just that.

In 2012 I had the privilege of attending my first Biosignature certification under Charles Poliquin himself when he was still teaching for the Poliquin group. For me 2012 was the year that everything changed. It was a huge eye opener to the integrative/functional medicine field and a great stepping stone which allowed me to go on to meet the likes of Dr Cindy de Villiers and Dr Kyle who I am now fortunate enough to be working alongside at Inner Strength.

So without further ado, here are the top 10 things I’ve learned…

  1. The poor sleep curves from around the world correlate closely to the obesity levels in those countries… Sleep is everything!
  2. If on a high protein diet you must also go high fat.  Be sure to include smart fats such as organic butter and coconut oil in your nutrition regime.
  3. Parabens are the chemicals found in body care products such as shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. Simply put, they will turn the male androgen hormones into estrogen. Parabens are also highly linked with breast cancer development in women.
  4. The first thing you put in your mouth in the morning will set up your neurotransmitters for the entire day. If you drink orange juice or other high-glycemic foods expect a spike in insulin which will trigger serotonin production. This will make you feel good, but it will also make you very sluggish and tired. Protein first thing is critical for priming the neurotransmitters for the day.
  5. The amino acid Glycine can be used to remove pesticides from fruit and vegetables.
Put 2g glycine in a bowl with water and see the pesticides run!
  6. Clients who take their omega 3’s will produce less cortisol given any stress.
  7. Soy is one of the most sprayed crops and thus is highly estrogenic. Soy shrinks brain cells, has shown to be linked to ADD. Interestingly enough the higher the IQ of a women the more likely she is to be wrongly educated towards soy.
  8. DHA, carnitine and D3 will significantly help with every brain disorder known to man.
  9. You need 60 grams of protein before 12 o’clock in the afternoon to function! The first 30 grams going towards detoxification, the second 30 grams going to immune function.
  10. Women are far more likely to get all forms of cancers due to less amino acids and B vitamins in their diet. Take a multivitamin and/or and eat plenty of protein to support detoxification!
